The DSS Department was proud to take the lead in organizing a three-day Workshop on Effective Teaching & Research Methodology Skills from August 15-18, 2009 to help improve the quality of teaching and research in social sciences. The key themes addressed in the Workshop included: Epistemological Foundations of Social Sciences, Research Proposal Writing, Research Design and use of Web Resources, Statistical Data Tabulation, Measurement & Data Analysis, Effective Teaching & Communication Skills, HEC procedures for Research Grants & Anti plagiarism policies.
The duration of the workshop was three days, and had around 35 participants. Amongst these, most of them were younger faculty drawn from social sciences departments of QAU, FJWU, & FCS – NDU. Students enrolled in PhD programmes in these departments had also been encouraged to participate. Invitations were extended to leading think tanks, such as the ISS, IRS, IPS, IPRI, SPD, SASSI & ISSRA researchers. Preference was given to teaching faculty and PhD candidates of all participating institutions. The attending participants would be given a certificate of attendance by the HEC.
The workshop was conducted by eminent scholars in the field such as Dr. Rifaat Hussain, Dr. Tahir Amin, Dr. Tariq Rehman, Dr. Nasim Hijazi, Dr. M. Waseem, Dr. Waseem Shahid Malik, Mr. Zafarullah Khan, and from the HEC Mr. Murtaza Noor and Mr. Munir Ahmed. The certificates were awarded by Ms. Noor Amna Malik, DG LI Div, HEC presided by Dr. Syed Rifaat Hussain, Chairman DSS Department.
