Seminar on ” Revolution in Strategic Affairs: Assessing Stability in the First Quarter of 21st Century” Brig retd Feroz Hassan Khan

The DSS Department in collaboration with Directorate of External Linkages hosted visiting scholar Brig retd Feroz Hassan Khan, Research Professor @ Naval Postgraduate College, Monetery California as part of its distinguished Lecture Series. The speaker expressed his views on Revolution in Strategic Affairs: Assessing Stability in the First Quarter of 21st Century.
Attended widely by students from QAU & NUST, the speaker highlighted the impact of emerging and disruptive technology on the traditional doctrines and discourse on Conventional and Strategic affairs. Characterised by lightening speed and short crisp, decisive strikes have completely altered the contemporary to future battlefields, with no certainity regarding who the victor would be in the true sense.
The talk was followed by a very engaging Q&A session, in which questions regarding human control over AI & Emerging disruptive Technologies, difference in the private and governmental sectors’ responce to these emerging trends, change in the speed of decision making, gaps and firewalls in decision making and execution which will cast a strong impact on deterrence stability, the gap between Globa North & South in terms of their response, level of prepardness and adaptibility with these emergig technologies, concerns regarding ethics and regulations, psychological aspect and enhanced human fragility, biases and issues in machine learning and laws to govern and streamline these aspects were raised. The session was ably moderated by Dr Syed Adnan Athar Bukhari. At the end Dr Salma Malik summed the discussion and offered the vote of thanks.
