The guest speaker was Ms Amna Munawar Awan, President of the Center of Pakistan and International Relations (COPAIR). The session begin with the generous introduction of guest speaker by Mr Akhtar Shabbir & it was moderated by Dr Salma Malik , Associate Professor, DSS.
Ms. Awan presented a comprehensive overview of emerging geopolitical trends and the future structure of global power. She shed light on Pakistan’s foreign policy posture vis-a-vis relations with China and the United States, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced and pragmatic diplomatic posture to safeguard national interests.
She also addressed the challenge of climate change, advocating for climate reparations for countries like Pakistan that bear climate vulnerabilities despite being low contributors to global emissions. She highlighted how climate, security, and governance are becoming increasingly interconnected.
A key focus of her talk was on technological transformation, including the role of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), and responsible use of social media. She stressed the need for indigenization of technology to reduce dependency and strengthen national resilience in future warfare scenarios. She also praised chinese assistance to Pakistan in three day stand off with India.
The session drew a majority participation of Mphil and PhD students, reflecting the academic significance of the discussion. In an encouraging gesture, Ms. Amna also offered internship opportunities to interested students, creating avenues for practical exposure and research collaboration.
The lecture concluded with a dynamic Question and Answer session, where students engaged in thoughtful dialogue on Pakistan’s strategic choices, hybrid threats, and global governance shifts. The session was informative, interactive, and well appreciated by the audience.
