Interactive Dialogue on Islam, Democracy and Muslim World: An Alternative Discourse

In the spirit of Eid Milad un Nabi, the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies at Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad has planned several events, first amongst these being an Interactive Dialogue on Islam, Democracy and Muslim World: An Alternative Discourse in collaboration with International Research Council for Religious Affairs (IRCRA) held on October 18, 2021.

The honorable guest was the President of IRCRA, Mr. Muhammad Israr Madni. The session was moderated by Dr. Shabana Fayyaz. Among attendees were the students of various departments of the university.

After Tilawat by Mr. Akhtar Shabir (MSc Sem 04), Mr. Muhammad Israr Madni, having profound knowledge of Islamic Ideology, enlightened the students about the Islamic concept of democracy, the contemporary debate on Islam and Democracy and paradoxes that exist of theoretical and practical level. He also shared with students, the findings of his study on the ideologies and recruitment drive of some radical outfits active in the region. He emphasized on the need of addressing the issue at an ideological level by the state.

The latter half of the hour long session was reserved for ‘Questions and Answers’ as it was an interactive dialogue. The students asked questions about the findings of Mr. Madni’s research. Some of the questions directed at the esteemed guest sought a broader understanding of Jihadist Ideologies in regional context. The dialogue ended with a thank you note followed by the presentation of departmental shield to the honorable guest by the Head of the Department Dr. Shabana Fayyaz
