On October 19th, 2018 the students from DSS department were provided a special awareness and orientation session on research and database scanning techniques by the Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Center (PASTIC) at the latter’s pr emises. the group of thirty plus students of MSc DSS Semester 04 were accompanied by faculty member Ms. Sadia Tasleem, and were met with PASTIC’s Senior Scientific Information Officer Mr Ayub Dogar. Who introduced the work functioning of the PASTIC, the various online digital resources, databases, access to libraries worldwide including the HEC and other services such as technology and patent information services. where most of the facilities available to the researchers are free of charge, a select few ordinarily not available carry a nominal fee for download and access. though the facilities and search engines available at PASTIC are more pertinent for natural sciences, yet the wider access was helpful for students of DSS just as much. the students were through designated computer terminals, also provided an orientation on conducting search on the various data banks online, how to derive the maximum utilization from the online resources and modify the search techniques for best and optimal results. The hour and a half long session ended over a group photograph round and note of gratitude over informal refreshments.
