Talk by Amb. Zamir Akram on “Reflection on Pakistan’s Nuclear Policy”

Ambassador (R) Zamir Akram delivered a talk on “Reflection on Pakistan’s Nuclear Policy” on December 04, 2023.  He enlightened the students and the faculty of the Department of Defence and Staretgic Studies on his recent book, “The Security Imperative: Pakistan’s Nuclear Deterrence and Diplomacy.” He amply highlighted that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program was conceived due to external security challenges posed by India. As an insights from a diplomat, he analysed the evolution of Pakistan’s nuclear policy of credible minimum deterrence and full spectrum deterrence that would need to be flexible and dynamic to maintain nuclear deterrence and strategic stability against a competitor that is planning for war-fighting strategy. He also highlighted Pakistan’s position on many non-proliferation measures at the international multilateral forums. The students greatly benefited from his insights and appreciated his book talk. The chairperson, Dr Shabana Fayyaz offered a vote of thanks to the esteemed presenter.
