Round-table Discussion with the Visiting Royal College of Defence Studies, UK at the DSS department. May 25th, 2011

A fourteen member team of RCDS, UK visited the DSS department, QAU for a roundtable discussion to discuss and exchange views on the issues effecting Pakistan, ranging from the counter insurgency operations, US and Allied military operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan India relations, especially in the light of Kashmir issue, governance and current political developments. The RCDS team led by Mr, Desmond Bowen consisted of Allied officers and was accompanied by members of Pakistan military.

The roundtable was led from the DSS side by Dr. Rifaat Hussain, who was joined by the Departmental faculty as well as students and guests from other social sciences’ department. The chair after introducing the work function of the department, gave an overview of the current socio political situation. The visiting team raised questions with regards the economic situation of the country, crisis of governance, situation in the KPK and especially the FATA, border as well as inland security dimensions, as well as effects of devolution plan on the future of the state.

The visitors were duly apprised of the various developments and the meeting concluded over an exchange of mementoes.
