“Waba aur Baqaa” Documentary Screening and Discussion: Illuminating the Impact of Pandemic on Marginalized Communities

In collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Pakistan Office, the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS) hosted the première of the documentary “Waba aur Baqaa” in the DSS auditorium on 26th October 2022. The film, meticulously crafted by Mr. Areeb Azher, focused on the life of a resilient young girl, Wajeeha, who resides in the economically disadvantaged Bari Imam area/Nurpur Shahan.

The audience was privileged to engage with a panel of distinguished speakers following the screening. Ms. Sidra Saeed, a seasoned moderator, expertly moderated a panel comprised of the documentary’s primary participants, Mr. Areeb Azher, Ms. Sayed Gul Kailash representing marginalised communities, and Dr. Shabana Fayyaz, the esteemed Chair of DSS. Each speaker brought a distinct perspective to the table, sharing their thoughts on the documentary’s many facets.

The event culminated with profound remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Idrees. He emphasised the importance of such activities in bridging the divide between academia and the real world.

Audience members, who were mostly enthusiastic DSS students, participated in a robust Q&A and vibrant conversation throughout the event’s interactive phase, which was the highlight of the evening. Their perceptive questions and passionate discussions revealed a profound understanding of the issues highlighted in the documentary. This exchange of ideas and perspectives demonstrated the event’s effectiveness in fostering dialogue and understanding among the youth, who are crucial agents of social change.
