Seminar on Contemporary Geo-Political Challenges to South Asian Strategic Stability By Rana Athar Javed

The DSS department hosted Rana Athar Javed Director General Pakistan House a Denmark & Pakistan-based think tank on International Affairs on September 26, 2019. Mr Javed  explored Hybrid warfare, Indian entities in Afghanistan and misperception of the ground realities as enduring Challenges to South Asia. The two contesting nuclear powers (Pakistan & India) along with small regional states Bangladesh & Sri lanka are in a pattern of power contestation. India (natural geographic hegemon) manipulates and has used Bangladesh & Sri lanka against Pakistan by providing support to anti-Pakistan elements (Mukti Bahani, BLA & others) to attain its hegemonic designs in South Asia. India’s influence in Afghanistan cannot be ignored as New Delhi is constantly trying to marginalize Pakistan’s influence/ efforts in bringing peace & harmony in Afghanistan.

During the intense Q& A session, question such as India’s seven sister states across the Shilligori Corridor are quite vulnerable to secession. Could Pakistan capitalize such vulnerability and launch Hybrid warfare in India? R2P (Responsibility to Protect) is an initiative under the banner of UN. Can Pakistan initiate such initiative to protect the rights of Kashmiri people? As well as the notion of Russia and / or China as the rising Super powers and impact on Afghan stability were raised. The session ended with a group photograph and a vote of thanks from Dr Shabana Fayyaz, DSS department In Charge.
