On 4th November 2025, the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies hosted Brig (R) Feroz Hassan Khan, a distinguished former officer of the Pakistan Army who served on the Line of Control, Siachen Glacier, and the Afghanistan border. Brigadier Khan is currently a Research Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, known for his work on South Asia, Pakistan’s security policies, and nuclear strategy. He has also served as the Director of Arms Control and Disarmament Affairs at Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division.
At the beginning of the event, Madam Sadia Tasleem warmly welcomed the guest and expressed her sincere thanks to Brig (R) Feroz Hassan Khan for taking out time to speak to the students. This was followed by a brief introduction of Brigadier Khan by Haseeb Ahmad Khattak, who highlighted his distinguished military service and influential academic work.
Brigadier Khan then began his talk on the evolution of Strategic Studies, explaining how the discipline has moved beyond conventional war and now includes political, economic, and technological dimensions. He made the session highly interactive by asking students questions and inviting them to share their understanding of strategic concepts.
He also discussed the rise of emerging technologies and their growing importance in shaping modern strategy. Brigadier Khan’s further explained the central role of nuclear deterrence in South Asian security and how strategic stability depends on responsible decision-making.
A lively question-and-answer session followed, where students asked about defence policies, regional dynamics, and future challenges. Brigadier Khan’s thoughtful and clear responses provided valuable guidance and deepened the students understanding.
The session concluded with closing remarks from Madam Dr. Saira Aquil, who thanked Brig (R) Feroz Hassan Khan for sharing his valuable insights, time, and experience.
