Conceptualising Thesis Writing

The Directorate of External Linkages at QAU hosted an interactive session on the topic of “Conceptualising Thesis Writing”. The session was led by Dr. Anita Weiss, a guest scholar and Professor Emerita from the Department of Global Studies at the University of Oregon, USA. The event took place at the auditorium of the DSS Department on 19th September 2023. Dr. Weiss underscored the significance of thesis writing within the academic sphere, as it serves as a pivotal milestone that encapsulates extensive years of scholarly inquiry, investigation, and intellectual discovery.
The Speaker emphasised that the process of conceptualising thesis writing goes beyond simply collecting data; it entails developing an original perspective. The task requires the academic to critically analyse the current body of literature, identifying areas that lack sufficient research and complexities that require further investigation. During this process of engagement, the researcher engages in a refining of the research topic.
According to Dr. Weiss, it is crucial to ensure methodological clarity in the conceptualization process. In order to effectively address their research inquiries, researchers must diligently construct their study by carefully picking suitable research methodologies and approaches.
Finally, Dr. Shabana Fayyaz, the esteemed Chair of the department, expressed her thoughts. The session was afterwards followed by a question and answer session.
