DSS Department’s Briefing on Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On November 13th, a trip of MSc DSS Second Semester was arranged by visiting faculty Amb.(retd.) Shahid Kiani, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The students were accompanied by the Department chair Dr. Nasrullah Mirza and Dr. Shabana Fayyaz alongside Amb. Kiani. For the students, visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and experience firsthand, the work environment and ambience of the place was a unique opportunity, as many amongst themaspire to join the civil services.

The primary objective of the visit was to help students build a better comprehension of the foreign policy of our country and the institutional structuring of the process. The spokesperson of the Ministry, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, personally gave a briefing covering the contemporary geopolitical situation and the intricacies of diplomacy and foreign relations. The briefing was very helpful in explaining the concerns and contours of foreign policy articulation and implementation, and broadened the comprehension about these key issues for the students. This was followed by a comprehensive Questions and Answer session in which he addressed the queries of the students by giving pertinent answers and quoting from the policies of current government. After the briefing, a group photograph with the officers of MOFA was taken. Moreover, Dr Faisal also joined the students for a cup of tea after which the students were provided with a tour of the History gallery and the commendable library. The visit played a key role in getting a good grasp of the varied aspects of foreign policy of Pakistan and the present relations of our country with others in the international arena
