Seminar on “Social Cohesion and Inclusivity”

The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS) hel a seminar entitled “Social Cohesion and Inclusivity,” which was coordinated by in cooperation with the Resilient Women Network, offered an opportunity for engaging dialogues on significant matters pertaining to society. Opening remarks were given by Dr. Shabana Fayyaz, Chairperson of the Department, and followed by in-depth discussion on issues of social unity and acceptance.

 

Ms. Asiya Nasir, a prominent senior parliamentarian and esteemed chairperson of the Resilient Women Network (RWN), delivered a talk outlining the various activities undertaken by the organisation to promote and nurture social cohesion. During her speech, she underscored the significant contributions made by women and young individuals in shaping societies. The speaker emphasised the crucial role of women and youth in fostering a community characterised by peace, harmony, and inclusiveness.

 

Dr. Akhtar Abbas, an esteemed participant at the seminar, offered a thorough discussion of the complex matters surrounding ethnocentrism and languages that are entrenched across society. The author highlighted the significant impact that language exerts in both the genesis and settlement of disputes. Dr. Abbas has identified a significant deficiency in societal cohesion, namely the lack of comprehensive language policies.

 

The ensuing discourse session was characterised by passionate exchanges of ideas, experiences, and solutions. The participants actively participated in intense discussions, delving into various strategies to address the obstacles that impede social cohesion and inclusivity. The interactive session played a crucial role in enhancing the comprehension of the topics addressed and facilitated the collaboration, brainstorming, and presentation of novel approaches by the participants.
