Distinguished visiting faculty Air Commodore (Retd.) Muhammad Khalid Banuri, engaged the students in a very interactive and candid session on Brainstorming Research Ideas on Monday October 01, 2019. He intrigued the audience through questions about why they chose to be part of this discipline, what motivated their choices, are the students interested in reading books and what motivates them to make future career choices. With regards research in social sciences, he raised and discussed issues such as What research is, why is it needed, how does a researcher seek clarity in seeking answers to his research questions. What is the importance of research in Pakistan and how can we improve the culture of research in the country?
Walking the audience through the process of research, he dwelt on the importance of specificity, refinement, focus and developing the necessary skillset for the task. The basic premise being developing a habit of reading, researching and a quest for analysis and knowledge seeking. He raised fascinating points about the culture of studies, tutoring and mentoring. The talk concluded over an interesting Q&A session, and a thank you note from Dr Shabana Fayyaz, In charge DSS Department.
