The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS), in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Commission, arranged a significant one-day seminar on October 31, 2022. The symposium focused on the topic of “Continued Indian Aggressions & Struggle of Kashmiri People Since October 27, 1947”. The objective of the conference was to provide insight into the unlawful occupation of Jammu & Kashmir by India and to express support for the Kashmiri population, recognising the hardships they have endured since being subjected to Indian control.
The seminar convened a panel of esteemed speakers, comprising renowned scholars, diplomats, and legislators, who offered their valuable insights on the matter of Kashmir. The introductory remarks were delivered by Mr. Ejaz Hussain Lone, Secretary of Kashmir Cause, Arts & Literature, within the AJK Government, set the tone with his opening remarks.
Dr. Shaheen Akhtar, a distinguished academic in the field of International Relations and a faculty member at the National Defence University in Islamabad, provided a comprehensive analysis of the marginalised status experienced by the Kashmiri population living under Indian governance.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Ghalid Iqbal provided a comprehensive analysis of the shortcomings observed in Pakistan’s Kashmir policy. The speaker placed significant emphasis on the importance of acknowledging and aggressively addressing internal deficiencies. The seminar culminated in a lively question and answer session, during which students and professors actively interacted with the presenters, thereby deepening their comprehension of the Kashmir situation.
Shields were distributed as symbolic gestures of gratitude, and Dr. Salma Malik, Senior Faculty member conveyed her appreciation to the presenters, attendees, and partners from the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell (JKLC), including Raja Afsar Khan, Sardar Sajid, and Mr. Sarwar Gilgiti. The seminar functioned as a forum for well-informed dialogues, promoting consciousness regarding the Kashmiri struggle and advocating for an active attitude in achieving a peaceful resolution to the enduring conflict.
